LECTURER IN MODELING & SCULPTURE

Overview:

The Sculpture Department is dedicated to the study and creation of three-dimensional art. It provides students with technical skills, conceptual development, and critical awareness to explore form, space, and material in dynamic and innovative ways.

Core Objectives:

  • Understand the fundamentals of three-dimensional design and spatial relationships.

  • Explore a wide range of materials and sculptural processes.

  • Develop a personal artistic voice through conceptual and hands-on experimentation.

  • Engage with contemporary practices, public art, and site-specific installations.

  • Learn safe and professional studio practices.

 

Techniques and Materials Taught:

  • Additive and Subtractive Methods – Modeling, carving, and constructing.

  • Casting – Using materials such as plaster, resin, and metal.

  • Welding and Metalwork – Working with steel, aluminum, and found metal objects.

  • Woodworking – Joinery, carving, and fabrication using traditional and power tools.

  • Installation and Environmental Art – Creating site-specific or interactive works.

  • Mixed Media and Assemblage – Incorporating found objects, digital media, or performance.

  • 3D Digital Modeling and Fabrication – Including 3D printing and CNC routing.

 

Facilities and Equipment:

  • Fully equipped metal and wood shops

  • Welding stations, forges, and casting areas

  • Plaster and clay modeling studios

  • Tool rooms with hand and power tools

  • Digital fabrication labs (3D printers, laser cutters, CAD software)

  • Large installation spaces for scale experimentation

 

Curriculum and Activities:

  • Foundation courses in drawing, design, and sculpture basics

  • Workshops in welding, mold-making, and installation

  • Critiques and peer discussions to develop critical thinking

  • Art history and theory focusing on sculpture and spatial practices

  • Exhibitions, public art projects, and collaborative work

  • Thesis projects or capstone installations in senior years
